About Zimbabwe Institution Of Engineers UK
The Branch is a non-profit, apolitical and non-religious membership based organization dedicated to advancing the art, science, engineering, and application of technology, serving both private and public interests by fostering the open interchange of information and by promoting the highest professional and ethical standards.
The objectives of the branch shall be to implement in every way possible the Act and Laws of the Institution and in particular;
- To support and assist the Institution in the attainment of the objectives of the Institution. To further the objectives of the Institution in such other ways as may be deemed desirable within the limits laid down by the Act and Laws of the Institution;
- To stimulate interest in the Institution among members and non-members, to promote the activities of the Institution, and to encourage new membership of the Institution, within the geographical area of the territories of the United Kingdom, covering England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland;
- Provide a focal point for matters of professional importance to engineers in the Branch and approve and co-ordinate the activities of the various constituent Regions, Special Interest Groups and/or Sections.;
- Liaise with the elected Members and officers of the Institution and the Branch members on the affairs of the Institution and the Branch;
- Provide nominations for the Member of Council together with other nominations that the Institution may require;
- Manage the financial, social, legal, technological and commercial affairs of the Branch;
- To hold regular meetings, conferences, exhibitions, seminars, research and other events or activities and to present papers, lectures and discuss engineering and technology subjects, visit areas of engineering interests in conformity with the practices of the Institution;
- Promote, develop and expand and maintain the reputation, interests, effectiveness and public perception of the role, duties and achievements of Engineers;
- Offer annually a premium, or premiums, to be known as “The ZIE UK Branch Prize(s)” for a paper, or papers, presented at a meeting of the Branch by Members on the recommendation of judges appointed by the Committee.
- Offer annually “The ZIE UK Merit Award(s)” for engineering works of outstanding merit learnt, researched, taught, managed, designed, constructed or maintained by members in accordance with the rules as set out by the Branch from time to time.
- Devise, promulgate, promote and encourage Continuing Professional Development (CPD) amongst members of the Institution and the Branch;
- To foster good relations and to encourage joint functions with the Engineering Council of the United Kingdom (EC (UK)), UK Engineering Institutions and other similar international institutions and organisations;
- To do such other acts and activities as may be requisite in order to further the development and objectives of the Branch provided that such things shall not be in conflict with the Act and Laws of the Institution.
